Periodontics refers to the part of dentistry which deals specifically with the study, diagnosis and treatment of the gums and structures which support the teeth. If you are suffering from reddened, sore, inflamed, bleeding gums or loose teeth, bad breath, recurrent gum infections, then you may have gum disease or underlying gum issues. We can identify this and help to restore health in the gums and mouth. Speak with your dentist or hygienist about any concerns with your gums. Here at Holly House we are pleased to be able to offer Specialist Periodontal Treatments to address advanced gum disease issues.

Make your appointmentGum disease is an inflammatory disease which in the early stages is characterised by swollen gums and is referred to as gingivitis. This is the body’s initial response to the presence of harmful bacteria which can go on to cause further infection in the gums and underlying bone.
There are several factors at play in the development of periodontal disease including poor dental hygiene, smoking, diabetes, stress, and genetics. Bacteria within plaque deposits around the teeth and gums cause damage and inflammation of the gums, so it’s essential that you regularly remove these at home with proper brushing, flossing and the use of interdental brushes.
As mentioned above you can help yourself by good oral hygiene routines. This includes brushing, flossing and using interdental brushes. Our hygienist can help to keep difficult areas of the mouth plaque and tartar free and guide you on your routine oral hygiene measures.
Making regular appointments with your dentist will allow them to conduct a full screening of your mouth as part of a routine examination to assess the risk of your developing periodontal disease.
If you already suffer from periodontal disease, you can discuss your treatment options with your dentist or hygienist. In moderate or severe cases, a referral to our Specialist Periodontist, Dr Khurrum Hussain, may be offered. He can provide advanced gum disease treatments.
Whether you’re suffering symptoms or want to know your risk for periodontal disease, a consultation with our experts will help you on your way to good gum health.
